What is Miaob?
Miaob is a Chrome extension that automatically detects idioms, quotes, xiehouyu and typos on Chinese web pages. Click to see origins, explanations and correction suggestions - making reading Chinese more fun and rewarding.
Which browsers does Miaob support?
Built on the Chrome extension platform, Miaob supports all Chromium-based browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and more.
Which websites does Miaob support?
All HTTP/HTTPS web pages, including news sites, novel platforms, blogs and forums. Some built-in browser pages (like chrome://) can't be injected due to security policies.
Is Miaob free?
The core features are completely free. Sign up for 10 credits, activate with WeChat for 100 more, and keep earning through daily use and idiom discoveries. Heavy users can choose a monthly (¥18/month) or yearly (¥99/year) plan for unlimited checks.
How do I install Miaob?
Download the extension package → unzip it to a folder → open chrome://extensions → enable "Developer mode" → click "Load unpacked" → select the unzipped folder. See the install guide for details.

What can I do with credits?
Credits pay for: deep idiom explanations (5), reading report exports (3), priority fast checks (2), and LLM deep checks (10). More credits, more features.
How do I earn credits?
Sign up +10, WeChat activation +100, daily check-in +5, discover idioms +5~50, send feedback +2~5, invite friends +15. Daily streaks earn extra. See the credits page for details.
Do credits expire?
No - credits never expire.
Privacy & security
Is Miaob safe? Do you collect my data?
Miaob never collects your browsing history, bookmarks or passwords. When checking is enabled, text snippets that look like article content are sent to our server for analysis; content you actively share or submit is saved for that feature. We never sell personal information. See our privacy policy.
Where is my data stored?
Account data (credits, discovery records, etc.) is stored on our servers. Local settings and cache stay in your browser. After WeChat activation, data syncs across devices.
How do I delete my data?
To delete your account and data, email us and we'll process the request within 7 business days.
Support
Can't install the extension?
Please check: 1) you're using a Chromium-based browser; 2) "Developer mode" is enabled; 3) you selected the unzipped folder, not the zip file. Still stuck? Contact us.
Some pages aren't highlighted?
Possible reasons: 1) the page has too little content (fewer than 4 characters); 2) it's a built-in browser page (chrome://); 3) the page uses special technology that blocks injection. Try clicking the extension icon to check manually.
